PITTSBURGH – The Bombers finished the first day of play at the Carnegie-Mellon Invitational unbeaten Friday after edging John Carroll 3-2 (34-32, 29-31, 27-30, 30-27, 15-8). Ithaca improves to 12-4 on the season.
Three Bombers set career-highs in the match: sophomore
Amanda Hubbard (Horseheads/Horseheads) with a team-leading 21 kills, sophomore
Mary Schaefer (Eden/Eden) with 15 digs, and senior captain
Lauren Oman (Greenville Senior/Greenville, Pa.) with 14 kills.
Hubbard also tied a career-high with a team-leading 22 digs in the match.
Sophomore
Casey Buss (Barnstable/Yarmouthport, Mass.) scored 36 assists, including number 1,500 on her career; she stands at seventh on the Bombers’ all-time list with 1,502. Senior
Jen Cramer (Beavercreek [Ohio]/Chittenango) notched 10 digs to record number 1,600 on her career; she stands at fourth on the Bombers’ all-time list with 1,606.
The Bombers’ competition on Saturday includes Heidelberg at 10 a.m. and Gettysburg at 2 p.m.
